Summary:
A greyish to greenish-grey triplefin, pale below, with dark vertical lines on the head, rows of fine dark spots on the dorsal, caudal and pectoral fins, and marbling on the back and wavy blotches along the sides.

Distribution

Endemic to southern Australia from Cape Jarvis and Kangaroo Island, South Australia, to the Swan River, Perth Western Australia. I
nhabits coastal tidepools and rocky intertidal areas. Individuals are occasionally seen completely out of the water, returning to the water with a flip of their tail.

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin marmoratus (= marbled, mottled) in reference to the yellowish colour "much mottled with black, particularly on and above the lateral  line".
