Summary:

Identifying features: body black, face blue to bluish-grey with yellow spots, a white band behind the head, pectoral fins mostly black with a yellowish margin, and a yellow tail.

Unlike the closely-related Yellowtail Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus personifer, adult Yellowtail Angelfish lack a black bar on the middle of the caudal fin.

Distribution	Found in eastern Australia from Cape York, Queensland, to Sydney, New South Wales, and at Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea. Although adults usually inhabit deep outer reefs, they also occur in bays and estuaries with rich sponge growth. Juveniles often occur on shallower protected inner reefs and around jetties.
Feeding	Feeds on sponges, tunicates and jellyfish.
Similar Species	Similar to and previously confused with the Yellowtail Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus personifer, from north-western Australia, which has a black bar in the middle of the caudal fin in larger specimens. The distributions of these two species do not overlap.
