Summary:
A sandperch with 5-7 U-shaped saddles along the back, 8-10 bars along the lower side, and a large blotch on the first dorsal fin.

Monte Bello Islands to off the Kimberley, Western Australia, and the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-West Pacific. |
Biology |
A monandric protogynous hermaphrodite with all individuals maturing first as female and later changing sex to become male. |
Etymology |
The species is named in honour of ichthyologist John Otterbein Snyder, who collected type specimen with David Starr Jordan. |
