Summary:
A sandperch with 5-7 U-shaped saddles along the back, 8-10 bars along the lower side, and a large blotch on the first dorsal fin.

Distribution

Monte Bello Islands to off the Kimberley, Western Australia, and the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-West Pacific.

Biology

A monandric protogynous hermaphrodite with all individuals maturing first as female and later changing sex to become male.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of ichthyologist John Otterbein Snyder, who collected type specimen with David Starr Jordan.
