Summary:
A silvery seabream with 5 to 8 narrow dark bars on sides, the first through the eye and across the cheek, and a narrow brown bar often through the pectoral-fin base. Size: maximum length about 35 cm.

Distribution

Found in the East-Indo-West Pacific. Taken mostly in bottom trawls.

Features

Meristic features: Dorsal fin X, 10; Anal fin III, 10; Pectoral fin 14; Pelvic fin I, 5; Lateral line scales 46-48.
Body oblong, compressed, relatively deep, 1.9-2.2 in SL, snout pointed; cheek with 4 transverse scale rows; inner surface of pectoral fin axil naked; outer surface of maxilla smooth, canine and villiform teeth present on sides of jaws. Lower margin of orbit positioned above horizontal line from snout tip to middle of caudal fin; caudal fin moderately forked, tips pointed, median rays slightly longer than eye diameter.
