Distribution

West of Darwin to the Arafura Sea, Northern Territory. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-Pacific.
A benthopelagic and mesopelagic species inhabiting depths of 130-300 m during the day, migrating to depths of 10-200 m at night.

Feeding

Feeds mostly on feeds mainly on copepods and crustacean larvae.

Scopelus (Mycophum) pterotus Alcock 1890, Annals and Magazine of Natural History 6 6(33): 217. Type locality: Madras coast, India, 18°30'N, 84°46'E, Investigator station 96, depth 98-102 fathoms.
