Summary:
A mottled brown frogfish with multi-lobed tentacles on the head and body, very large pectoral fins and a broad, slightly concave interorbital space (gap between the eyes).

Distribution

Endemic to eastern Australia, from the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, to the Solitary Islands, northern New South Wales. Inhabits coral and rocky reefs in depths to 25 m, often sheltering in caves or under ledges.

Biology

Females lay few relatively large demersal eggs in a nest within a cave or beneath a ledge or overhang. The male parent guards the developing eggs and cares for the young after they hatch until they can fend for themselves.
