Summary:
A fairy wrasse with a brownish back and a pale underside with a pair of parallel stripes behind the eye running along and just below the dorsal-fin base, a stripe curving down behind the pectoral fin from the upper part of the gill cover then running along midbody to the tail. The stripes are majenta and pale blue in males, while females have narrower reddish stripes. Juveniles have a dark spot on upper part of the tail base.

Distribution |
Occurs on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere, the species occurs in New Caledonia, the Loyalty Islands, and Vanuatu. Inhabits areas of coral, rock and rubble, on reef slopes at depths of 7-55 m - often seen near the bottom. |
