Distribution	In Australia, known from Shark Bay, WA (25°21'S) to the Gulf of Carpentaria, QLD (11°59'S, 141°E). The species occurs elsewhere in the tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific.
Species Citation	Uranoscopus cognatus Cantor, 1850, J. Asiatic Soc. Bengal 18(2): 1003. Type locality: Sea of Penang (as Pinang), Malaysia.
