Distribution |
Eastern Australia from the Coral Sea, Queensland, to off ST Helens, Tasmania. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-west-central Pacific. An oceanic, mesopelagic species that undertakes daily vertical migrations from 375-850 m during the day, up to 80 m during the night to feed. |

Dorsal fin 14-16 (rarely 14); Anal fin 14-16 (rarely 14 or 16); Pectoral fin 10-11; Gill rakers 7-9 (rarely 7) + 1 + 14-15, total 22-25 (rarely 22). Photophores: AO 6 + 6 (5, rarely 7), total 12 (11, rarely 13). |

Attains sexual maturity at a length of 4.8 cm. |
Biology |
This species is Spawning takes place in the spring and summer (Hulley and Paxton in press). In the Mediterranean, its depth range is from 500 to 1,100 m in the east Ionian Sea (Mytilineou et al. 2005). It reaches sexual maturity at a length of 4.8 cm. |
