Summary:
A whitish cardinalfish often with a golden tinge, a large black spot on the cadual-fin base, and a black membrane on the anterior dorsal-fin spines.

Distribution

Darwin, NT, to north of Cairns (16º51´S), QLD. Found elsewhere in the tropical, west Pacific.
Adults inhabit mangrove estuaries, tidal creeks and the lower reaches of freshwater streams.

Features

Dorsal fin VII, 9; Anal fin II, 8. 

Trunk rhombic, mid body below the 1st dorsal base high. Nape moderately concave, snout tip rounded. Maxillary reaching rear border of eye. A distinct black spot just in front of anal base about equal to eye diameter in width.
