Summary:
A pale dusky-silvery whiting becoming silvery below, with a dull golden silver to golden yellow stripe along the side below the lateral line, pale yellow to bright yellow pelvic and anal fins, and fine blackish-brown spots scattered on the pectoral fins.

Distribution |
Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia, around the tropical north to Moreton Bay, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in Papua New Guinea. Inhabits silty/sand areas in protected inlets and mangrove-lined tidal tidal creeks. |

Features |
Dorsal fin XII, 16-18; Anal fin II, 14-17; Vertebrae 33-34. The anterior part of the swim bladder has rudimentary tubules projecting anteriorly and a lateral series, that diminishes in size and becoming sawtooth-like, projecting posteriorly. |

Feeding |
Feeds on invertebrates, including bivalve molluscs, crustaceans and polychaete worms. Individuals feed at night over silty-sand areas, sometimes 'ploughing' the bottom in search of prey. |

Biology |
Spawning occurs near sandbars around the mouths of estuaries. |

Similar Species |
Differs from Yellowfin Whiting, Sillago schomburgkii, in having fewer lateral line scales (54–61 vs. 66–76) and soft dorsal-fin rays (16–18 vs. 19–22). Goldenline Whiting also have larger body scales, giving them a rough or coarse feel to the body compared with the smooth or fine scales of Yellowfin Whiting. |
