Distribution

Known only from a single specimen caught in the Timor Sea off the Northern Territory, Australia and landed at Darwin. The specimen was taken on hook and line at a depth of 107 m over a muddy, sandy bottom.

Epinephelus darwinensis Randall & Heemstra 1991, Indo-Pacific Fishes 20: 133, pl. 11B, fig. 66. Type locality: north of Bathurst Island, Timor Sea, Australia [10°11´S, 129°48´E].
