Summary:
This rare secretive basslet usually shelters in caves and under ledges. It has a reddish orange head, a bright yellow body with many fine red pinstripes along the sides, a reddish tail and tail base with a white lateral stripe, and a serrate posterior preopercular margin.

Distribution

Recorded in the Australian EEZ from the offshore reefs of Rowley Shoals, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef in the Timor Sea, and Osprey Reef, in the Coral Sea off Queensland. Found elsewhere in the tropical Western Pacific.
Inhabits deep caves and crevices in rich coral areas on offhsore reefs.

Liopropoma multilineatum Randall & Taylor, 1988, Indo-Pacific Fishes 16: 41, pl. 2C. Type locality: south side of Tanavulu Point, Florida Island, Solomon Islands (9°02´44"S, 160°04´07"E).
