Summary:
A relatively deep-bodied queenfish with a row of vertically elongate blotches or short bars crossing the lateral line in adults, a dusky dorsal-fin lobe, a yellowish pectoral fin, a white pelvic fin, and the upper jaw extending slightly beyond the rear margin of the eye.

Features |
Dorsal fin VI-VII +I, 19-21; Anal fin II-I, 17-19; Gill rakers 1-3 + 7-11 = 11-15; Vertebrae 10+16=26. Body oblong, strongly compressed, covered with small lanceolate scales; hind tip of upper jaw extending slightly beyond a vertical through hind margin of eye; teeth in inner row of lower jaw distinctly larger than those in outer row. |
