Summary:
A relatively deep-bodied queenfish with a row of vertically elongate blotches or short bars crossing the lateral line in adults, a dusky dorsal-fin lobe, a yellowish pectoral fin, a white pelvic fin, and the upper jaw extending slightly beyond the rear margin of the eye.

Distribution

Dampier, Western Australia, to the Fitzroy River, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific.

Features

Dorsal fin VI-VII +I, 19-21; Anal fin II-I, 17-19; Gill rakers 1-3 + 7-11 = 11-15; Vertebrae 10+16=26.
Body oblong, strongly compressed, covered with small lanceolate scales; hind tip of upper jaw extending slightly beyond a vertical through hind margin of eye; teeth in inner row of lower jaw distinctly larger than those in outer row. 

Fisheries

Taken in subsistence fisheries in parts of its range.
