Summary:
The Splendid Hawkfish has a whitish body with red to reddish-orange spots and bars on the head and pectoral-fin base, larger reddish blotches on the anterior part of the body, and dark brownish blotches on the rear of the body.

On the Australian mainland, this species has been recorded from off Point Danger, Coolangatta, QLD, North Solitary Island and Nelson Bay, NSW, and from Elizabeth Reef, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island in the Tasman Sea. |
