Summary:
An iridescent coppery cardinalfish becoming paler before the black band around the caudal peduncle, with a dark bar on the snout and electric blue lines on the face.

Distribution |
Houtman Abrolhos, Western Australia, and Ashmore and Cartier Islands in the Timor Sea, to Jervis Bay, New South Wales; also Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean, and the Lord Howe island region in the Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific. Shelters under ledges or in holes and caves during the day. |
