Distribution |
Dampier Archipelago, Western Australia, around the tropical north to the Coral Sea, east of Emu Park, Queensland, with juveniles south the off Fremantle on the west coast, and to Nelson Bay, New South Wales, on the east coast. Elsewhere the species occurs in Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia. |
Remarks |
Specimens from eastern and northwestern Australia differ slightly in number of pectoral-fin rays (fish from the eastern Australia more often with 15 rays, while fish from western Australia usually with 14 rays), predorsal scales (usually 24–26 in eastern fish vs. usually 26–28 in western fish) and transverse scales (usually 7½ in eastern fish vs. usually 8 in western fish). |
Etymology |
The species is named in honor of Olga Vladimirovna Parina, who provided both authors with great help and moral support during the work on this review. The name "olpar" is formed by a combination of the first 2 letters of her name and the first 3 letters of the surname. |
