Summary:
A brown mottled flounder with three rows of pale black-edged spots - along the lateral line, and along the dorsal and ventral body margins, and an elongate first dorsal-fin ray separated from the rest of the fin with a narrow fringed membrane along the outer half to two-thirds of the ray.

Distribution

Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia (possibly further south), to off Cape Moreton, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa, to Tonga.
Inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms, and seagrass beds, sometimes near reefs.
