Distribution

Off Christmas Island in the Australian EEZ. Elsewhere the species is circumglobal on the continental slope (except the eastern Pacific).

Etymology

The species was presumably named for H. Brunswig, the first officer aboard the research vessel Valdivia, during the expedition that collected the type specimen.

Bassobythites brunswigi Brauer 1906, Die Wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse der Deutschen Tiefsee-Expedition auf dem Dampfer "Valdivia" 1898–1899 15(1): 307, pl. 14 (fig. 7). Type locality: Off northeastern coast of Africa [off Somalia, western Indian Ocean], 6°18'08"N, 49°32'05"E, depth 1079 m.
