Summary:

A pale goatfish with two black bars on the side that extend almost to the underside, a greyish head, and a whitish body with yellow scale margins.

Distribution	Ningaloo Reef and Hibernia Reef, Western Australia; also Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indian Ocean.
Species Citation	Mullus trifasciatus Lacépède 1801, Histoire Naturelle des Poissons 3: 404, pl. 15 (fig. 1). Type locality unknown.
