Summary:
A uniform brownish cusk eel with a dark band running from the eye almost to the rear edge of the gill cover, and two black blotches on the dorsal fin, one anteriorly and the other about halfway to the caudal fin.

Features |
Diagnostic features: pelvic fins inserted below preopercle; prepelvic length 13.0–14.5% SL; 14–16 scale rows between origin of dorsal fin and lateral line; four long rakers on anterior gill arch; pseudobranch with 29–33 filaments and pectoral fin with 24–26 rays; length of pelvic fins 15.5–16.5% SL. |
Remarks |
This species was previously referred to as Sirembo metachroma, which occurs off Queensland. |
Similar Species |
Differs from the other species in the genus Sirembo in having a dark band running postero-ventrally from the eye almost to the hind edge of the operculum and two black blotches on the dorsal fin, one anteriorly and the other about halfway to the caudal fin. |
Etymology |
The specific name wami refers to the acronym for the Western Australian Museum (WAM). |
