Distribution |
Alhtough the species has been recorded in Australia from Exmouth Gulf, WA, around the tropical north, to south of Fraser Island, Queensland, the distribution is unclear due to confusion with Lagocephalus sceleratus (Hoese & Lockett 2012). Elsewhere the species is widespread but not common in the tropical Indo-west Pacific. It inhabits offshore reefs, typically in shallow sandy areas surrounding reefs. |

Feeds on fishes, molluscs and crustaceans. |

Biology |
Many pufferfishes accumulate toxins such as tetrodotoxin and saxitoxin in their skin, gonads, and liver, and should not be eaten or fed to pets. |
