Summary:
A pinkish to brownish-yellow seabat with a reddish underside, symmetrical dark reticulations across the upper side, an orange pectoral fin crossed by a narrow white bar, two brown bars on the caudal fin.

Distribution |
Western Australia and the Northern Territory; also the territories of Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-West Pacific: South Africa, Seychelles and Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Inhabits muddy substrates on continental shelves and upper slopes. |

Dorsal fin 4; Anal fin 4; Pectoral fin 13; Pelvic fin I, 5; Caudal fin 9. Disc distinctly rounded; dorsal surface covered with medium-sized, simple or bifurcated tubercles; ventral surface completely naked or with many scattered granular spinules; teeth on tongue forming two paddle-shaped patches, each with a long inner prolongation. |
