Distribution |
Outer Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and Norfolk Island in the Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in Japan, Taiwan, Palau and New Caledonia. Inhabits coral and rocky reefs at depths of 30–155 m. |

A small hogfish reaching about 149 mm SL. |

Etymology |
The species is named masudai, named for Hajime Masuda who collected the holotype and co-authored the study in which the original description was presented. |
