Distribution

Off Byron Bay, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-west Pacific, usually at depths above 1000 m.

Etymology

The specific name nudiventer is from the Latin nudus (= bare, naked) and ventris (= belly), in reference to the absence of spines on lower surface of disk and tail of this species.
