Red Snout Emperor, Lethrinus reticulatus Valenciennes 1830


Summary:
An olive-grey to tan emperor, often with scattered irregular black blotches, a brown or olive head with an indistinct reddish band on the snout, and the upper edge of the operculum, pectoral-fin base sometimes the rear edge of the preoperculum red.

Distribution

Northwest Shelf, Western Australia, to off Cape York, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west Pacific: Mauritius, Chagos, west Thailand, Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, the Philippines and Northern Marianas to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. 
Inhabits shallow areas with soft substrates near coral reefs.

Feeding

Feeds on benthic invertebrates and small fishes.
