More Info

Karma seamount, SE of Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is known from north of Rodrigues Island in the Mascarenes, and a remote locality in the northeastern Indian Ocean between Sri Lanka and Aceh, Indonesia.

Disk unusually small; eye small; tubercles along edges of disk and sides of tail dorso-ventrally flattened, closely adjoining, forming thin, continuous saw-toothed ridges, those on sides of tail even, extending on either side of the caudal fin like keels. Tubercles absent from ventral surface of disk.

The specific name andriashevi honours "Dr. Anatole P. Andriashev, whose contributions to deep-sea ichthyology are legion. He first recognized this new ogcocephalid and kindly made it available to me for study. For 20 years he waited patiently for the results".
