Distribution |
Karma seamount, SE of Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is known from north of Rodrigues Island in the Mascarenes, and a remote locality in the northeastern Indian Ocean between Sri Lanka and Aceh, Indonesia. |
Features |
Disk unusually small; eye small; tubercles along edges of disk and sides of tail dorso-ventrally flattened, closely adjoining, forming thin, continuous saw-toothed ridges, those on sides of tail even, extending on either side of the caudal fin like keels. Tubercles absent from ventral surface of disk. |
Etymology |
The specific name andriashevi honours "Dr. Anatole P. Andriashev, whose contributions to deep-sea ichthyology are legion. He first recognized this new ogcocephalid and kindly made it available to me for study. For 20 years he waited patiently for the results". |
