Distribution |
Off the Gold Coast, Queensland, to off Gerringong, New South Wales, and NW of the Dampier Archipelago to the Scott Reef area, NW of Cape Leveque, Western Australia; also the Lord Howe Province in the Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the northern Celebes to the Philippine Archipelago and the Okinawa trough. Benthic specimens have a bathymetric range of 395-1372 m. |

Etymology |
The specific name stellifera is from the Latin stella (= star) and fero (= bearing, to carry), in reference to the stellate tubercles, each capped with a long slender spine, covering the dorsal surface. |
