Distribution

Australian territory of Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west Pacific: Gulf of Aden to New Caledonia, including the Lord Howe Ridge.

Features

Dorsal fin 228; Anal fin 164; Vertebrae 116-122, trunk vertebrae 44-47; Lateral line pores to pectoral-fin insertion 13-14. to dorsal-fin origin 17-19, to anus 42-45. Infraorbital pores 4; mandibular pores 2-3.
Pectoral fins not reaching dorsal-fin origin, 34-35% HL; head depth 46–56% HL. 

Etymology

The specific name adenensis refers to the type locality: Gulf of Aden in the northwest Indian Ocean.
