Summary:
A bright-yellowish pineapple fish, with black scale margins, a whitish oral cavity (including the underside of the tongue), peritoneum, and stomach, and a blackish vomer, palatine, outer margin of premaxilla, and dentary.

W of Broome, Western Australia, and ESE of Innisfail to E of Rockingham Bay, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Taiwan. Inhabits deep reefs on the outer Continental Shelf and Upper Slope. |

Similar Species |
Differs from the similar Japanese Pineapplefish, Monocentris japonica, in having only 6-7 scales on the third scale row below the lateral line (vs 8 in M. japonica), a consistently greater head depth, body depth, postorbital length, dorsal-fin–pelvic-fin length, and dorsal-fin–pectoral-fin length in proportion to standard length, and a differently shaped otolith. |
Etymology |
The specific name chrysadamas is from the Greek chrys (= golden) and adamas (= diamond), in reference to the yellowish body color in life and diamond-shaped scales of this species. |
