Distribution

Endemic to southern Australia, from Port Phillip, Victoria, and Great Oyster Bay in Tasmania. The species is likely to be more widespread in Victoria and Tasmania.
Inhabits shallow seagrass and macroalgal beds.

Features

Dorsal fin 8-10; Anal fin 9-11; Vertebrae 35-37.

Etymology

The specific name is "from the name of the Australian endemic parrot genus Parvipsitta Mathews, 1916, in reference to the bright colour of males in life."
