Summary:
Identifying features: Body overall blue with darker wavy lines, a yellow snout, pectoral, pelvic and caudal fins, a yellow stripe running along the dorsal fin base and a broad yellow vertical bar behind the eye with a white gill cover. Males and females differ in coloration. Males have blue wavy lines along the side, while females have yellow or blue spots.

Distribution |
Occurs in coastal waters of northern Australia from Shark Bay, Western Australia, to Moreton Bay, Queensland, and southward to Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea. Found elsewhere at the Aru Islands (Indonesia) and southern Papua New Guinea. Found on coastal reefs at depths of 5-20 m. |
