Summary:

An easily recognised cowfish with long spines protruding from the front of the head, and similar spines protruding from the lower rear of the carapace. Body colour varies from greenish, or olive-green to pale yellow or orange, with blue spots.

Longhorn Cowfish inhabit weedy and sandy areas near reefs. They often expose their invertebrate prey by blowing jets of water onto the sandy substrate.

Distribution

Widespread in Australia - recorded from about Fremantle, Western Australia, around the north to Narooma, New South Wales, and at Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea..

Feeding

Feedson benthic invertebrates by blowing away to sand to expose them.
