Summary:
An extremely long, slender leatherjacket with a long chin barbel, a long caudal fin and an inconspicuous dorsal-fin spine. Bearded Leatherjacket often camouflages themselves alongside sea pens, sea whips, mangrove roots, elongate sponges, ropes and floating mangrove shoots.

Distribution |
Port Denison and the Houtman Abrolhos, Western Australia (with a single record from Albany in the south), around northern Australia to Kurnell, Botany Bay, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west Pacific: India and Myanmar east to the Philippines, and south to Australia. Inhabits sandy, weedy, muddy and mangroves areas on coastal reefs, bays and estuaries. |

Dorsal fin I + 48-50, fin spine weak and inconspicuous, situated above middle of pectoral fin; anal fin 58-62; pectoral fin 8-10. |

May be taken as bycatch in commercial trawl and seine fisheries. |
