Summary:
A pale greyish-brown flounder with three dusky spots along the straight part of the lateral line, widely spaced small dark spots along the pelvic, dorsal and anal fins, and a whitish underside. The species has a prominent hump on the snout before the eyes.

Distribution

Endemic to southern Australia, from the Gulf St Vincent, South Australia, to off Albany, Western Australia.
Inhabits sandy areas in depths to 60 m.

Features

Dorsal fin 87-97; Anal fin 67-76; Pectoral fin 9-12; Pelvic fin 6; Caudal fin 14-16; Gill rakers 6-8; Lateral line scales 52-62; Vertebrae 11 + 28-29 = 39-40.
Body depth 43-47% SL; head length 20-25% SL; upper eye diameter 18-24% HL; upper jaw length 32-35% HL; prominent hump on snout in front of eyes; gill rakers serrated on posterior margin; scales ctenoid on eyed side, very weakly attached.

Fisheries

Occurs in prawn trawl grounds.

Etymology

The specific name micrommatus, is derived from the Greek mikros (= small) and omma (= eye), in reference to the small eyes of this species.
