Onslow, Western Australia, to Hervey Bay, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical west Pacific. Inhabits sandy and muddy areas. |

Etymology |
The specific name diplospilos is from the Greek diplo (= double) and spilos (= mark or spot) in reference to the four double eyespots (two ocelli in one ring) on the eyed side of this species. |
