Summary:
A pale brownish flounder with small ocelli at the junction between the curved and straight parts of the lateral line, and another ocellus near the middle of the straight portion.

Queensland, from off Magnetic Island to off Fraser Island. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the east-Indo-west Pacific. Inhabits muddy and sandy areas on the continental shelf. |
Features |
Dorsal fin 72-75; Anal fin 56-59; Pectoral fin (ocular side) 12-13; Gill rakers (lower limb) 9-10. Body elliptical, depth 1.9–2.1 in SL; upper profile of head without a distinct notch in front of upper eye; maxilla extending to below or beyond middle of lower eye; teeth in upper jaw small, slightly enlarged anteriorly, teeth in lower jaw larger and more widely spaced than those in upper jaw; scales ctenoid on eyed side, cycloid on blind side; gill rakers pointed and moderately short. Origin of dorsal fin slightly in front of anterior margin of upper and just above posterior nostril on blind side. |

Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin neglectus (= neglected, unnoticed), in reference to the fact that Bleeker had overlooked the holotype which had been preserved along with two other Pseudorhombus species. |
