Genus Omosudis

Summary:

A monotypic genus with the single species Omosudis lowii, the Hammerjaw - a deep-sea fish with prominent sabre-like teeth in both jaws, the distinctively deep lower jaw having one tooth which is considerably longer than the rest, a moderately long tapering body, a short-based dorsal fin and an adipose dorsal fin, a lateral keel on each side of the caudal peduncle and no light organs.

Omosudis is found in tropical and temperate latitudes of all major oceans. A more detailed treatment of this fish is available in Rofen (1966).
