Genus Stipecampus


Summary:

A genus of pipefish with a single species endemci to southern Australia. Body elongate, trunk shallow; head aligned with body; snout short; median dorsal snout ridge elevated, plate‑like, entire, its dorsal margin almost horizontal through dorsal rim of eye, confluent behind with supraorbital ridges; opercles usually without distinct longitudinal ridge in adults; STR and STAR continuous; ITR and ITAR continuous; LTR not confluent with LTAR, LTR ending at 1st or 2nd tail ring; eggs brooded in enclosed pouch on underside of tail just behind anal fin; tail not prehensile; dorsal fin much closer to tip of snout than tail, with base of moderate length; anal fin very small, below front half of dorsal fin; caudal fin very small; pectoral fins present.
