Distribution

Weipa in the Gulf of Carpentaria, to the Escape River estuary, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, west Pacific. Usually inhabits brackish waters especially amongst mangroves, but also in freshwater parts of tidal creeks and rivers.
