Off Sydney, New South Wales, to south of Penguin Island, South Australia, including around Tasmania. Burrows into soft sediments, usually at depths below 400 m. |

Vertebrae 180-186; Dorsal fin originates in advance of the anus. |
Etymology |
This species was "Named in honour of the late Peter H.J. Castle, eel expert and friend". |
