Summary:

A very small dark brown species with a relatively shallow body, large eyes, a single large serrated pelvic-fin spine, and no scales.

Distribution	Off Cape York to off Bowen, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the west Pacific.
Remarks	Grande et al. (2018) did not recover Macrurocyttus within the clade that included Grammicolepis and Xenolepidichthys.
