Distribution	Endemic to north-western Australia from Shark Bay to Eighty Mile Beach. Many previous records were based on misidentified specimens of Himantura picta.
Fisheries	Taken as incidental by-catch in commercial trawl fisheries.
Species Citation	Dasyatis leylandi Last, 1987, Mem. Mus. Vict. 48(1): 50, fig. 2. Type locality: north of Forestier Island, WA [19°28´S, 118°24´E].
