Summary:
A pearleye with extremely long black pectoral and pelvic fins, an black internal bar between the anterior anal-fin base and  the middle of the back, a bar of  internal pigment over the base of the caudal fin, and a dense black peritoneum.

Distribution

East of Tuggerah Lakes to east of Kiama, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west-central Pacific.

Features

Dorsal fin 8-9; Anal fin 20-22; Pectoral fin 23-26; Lateral-line scales 47-48; Vertebrae 46-47.

Biology

A simultaneous hermaphrodite with individuals having male and female reproductive tissue.

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin alatus (= winged), in reference to the very long pectoral and pelvic fins of this species.
