Distribution

Widespread in the Indo-Pacific, from South Africa and Madagascar, east to French Polynesia, north to southern Japan and south to Queensland, Australia. 
Inhabits shallow coral and rocky reefs, sheltering during the day, and venturing out to feed at night.
