Summary:
A mostly pale pinkish to yellowish stingfish with a narrow dark stripe along the middle of the body, the inner surface of the pectoral fin mostly bright yellow basally and distally, with fine dark stripes basally along the fin rays. The skin flap associated with the pore above the pectoral-fin base is long and tentacle-like.
In Australia, this species had previously been confused with Minous trachycephalus.

Distribution

NW of Dampier Archipelago, to E of Ashmore Reef, NW of Admiralty Gulf, Western Australia. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west Pacific: Maldives and Indonesia (north Sulawesi).

Features

Dorsal fin XI, 11; Anal fin II, 9; Pectoral fin 12 (lowermost ray free from membrane); Pelvic fin I, 5; Vertebrae 11 + 15 = 26. 
Head depth 18.8–21.6% of SL; eye positioned high on head (horizontal line through top of snout bulge is well below ventral margin of pupil in specimens >60 mm SL); anterior and posterior lacrimal spines sharp, anterior spine tip canted anteroventrally, posterior spine tip canted anteroventrally or ventrally in specimens >60 mm SL.

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin roseus (= pinkish) in reference to the entirely pinkish body of this species.
