Distribution

Continental slope of the central Queensland Plateau in 108-880 m, and off New Caledonia.

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin dianthus (= pink), in reference to the pinkish upper body coloration in life.

Etmopterus dianthus Last, Burgess & Séret 2002, Cybium 26(3): 209, figs 2a, 4a, 6a, 8a. Type locality: west of Lihou Reefs, Queensland Plateau, Queensland [16°55´S, 151°31´E].
