Distribution

Offshore reefs of north-western Australia (Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef), Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific.

Pterois radiata Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829, Histoire Naturelle des Poissons 4: 369. Type locality: Tahiti, Society Islands (as Otaïti).
