W of Barrow Island to W of The Kimberley, Western Australia. Elsewhere the species is known from the east-Indo-west-central Pacific. |

Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin porosus (= pored, full of pores), possibly in reference to the many photophores seen from the underside of the fish. |
