Distribution

Northwest of Point Cloates, Western Australia. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Atlantic-Indo-west Pacific.

Etymology

The specific name microlepis is from the Greek mikros (= small) and lepis (= scale) in reference to the “very small and nearly circular” scales of this species.

Species Citation

Alepocephalus microlepis Lloyd 1909, Memoirs of the Indian Museum 2(3): 146. Type locality: Arabian Sea, depth 700-600 fathoms.
